A short trip to Rome in the autumn is very probably better than in the blistering heat of the summer. Regardless of of the time of year the main tourist spots will be fairly crowded, but late in the season it was very bearable. Getting a ride with a cabby italian style was interesting to say the least. Basicly racing pretty controlled from the airport, overtaking left and right in the roman traffic he managed to get from the airport to the hotel in about 15 minutes.. kudo’s ! After a Japanese style attack of the touristy spots I was pretty saturated due to the sheer volume of old rome (every 2nd corner there is some half temple that could sustain the tourism in a small town) Rafaello, Michelangelo and the improbable amount of churches. Food was reasonable if not brilliant, lacking local knowledge it is hard to find truely good food by the trattoria in the Via del Seminario (near the colloseum) is a good one despite it being close to a very touristy area.The wine collection extending into the more upper strata (Euro 1000..) but the house wine is equally enjoyable at 2,5 a glass. In general it is better to go a few streets away from the big attractions for food, otherwise you will get food that is reasonable at best unless you pay dearly. Still reasonable food to my and italian standards is still lightyears better than McD mind you.

Coffee: I dare to say that there is no bad coffee in Rome. I suspect that men in special cars will come and hunt you down if you dare to make bad coffee.. nobody cares about traffic laws.. but coffee.
