A note on photography and pictures
I have a profession, it is not photography.
However I do like to look around .. and I might as well try and take a picture in the process.
To me ‘real’ photography more often than not involves getting shot towards (and it you’re unlucky: at) and generally operating in the grimy armpit of earth with the aim of getting it out there. It being people in need, war, endangered or dangerous animals or slightly less grimy: the noble art of landscape photography
or:
Monumental portraits (Yousuf Karsh and the like )
Art (Desiree Dolron and the like)
Or people getting paid to shoot fashion, sports or corporate images to embellish the yearly figures..
I on the other hand take pictures. I have no clue how to get a proper image in a real life dark room. I figured out the basics of what does what and why on a camera (optics and physics I get) on my own. The first pictures of this blog are pretty much the first images I shot using a SLR camera. By using the fabulous learning aid of a digital camera I now manage about three useable images on a 37 exposure roll of proper film..and that is using a pretty advanced near point and shoot tool like a Nikon F4. Who knows.. I might get into the Medium or forbid Large format in the long run.
cheers
